Hey Friend!

I'm glad you found my blog! I started Slammin Lammon because I love telling stories, writing and sharing everything on my mind! I hope you stay awhile and read a lot!

My Sudden 16 lb Weight Gain

My Sudden 16 lb Weight Gain

Sometimes circumstances beyond your control take a hold of you. Whether you believe in a higher power or fate, things don’t always go the way we want them to. Recently, I gained about 16 pounds all of a sudden. Sure, I could have probably put a stop to it if I really wanted to, but I just went in the direction I thought I should be heading. So, without shame or fear, I now share with you a picture of me with the extra 16 pounds. Feel free to laugh, it’s quite an amusing sight.

Surprised? Were you expecting to see me looking large and in charge? Yep, those 16 pounds are the newest addition to my family.

Meet King Kong.

Two weekends ago, my friend group went to the Richmond SPCA to help our friend Andrea pick out a cat. I knew that it was a dangerous situation for me, but I still entered into the Promised Land of Sweet Fur-Nuggets.

I was walking around looking at all the cats, when I saw a huge mass of black fur sitting in the corner of his cage.

Alex meet King Kong.

I think it might have been the description that got me... Never have I seen anything that speaks so directly to my soul!

It was love at first sight! I quickly ran over and put my name down to have a one on one meet and greet with Mr. Kong. Of course my friends thought I was nuts. A third cat?!? Yep, Alex has lost it. But did she really ever have it to begin with?!?

Finally, after what seemed like the longest wait ever, and a lot of stressful worrying that someone else was going to ask to see King Kong first, my name was called.

Waiting to get called to go look at an animal at the SPCA is the most stressful thing ever! You're staring down all the other people waiting and trying to Jedi mind trick them in to not looking at the same animal that you want to.  Imagine the Black Friday shoppers' attitude, and that sums up the situation perfectly!

As I was escorted back to a kitty meet and greet room, coincidentally the same room I had previously viewed my kitty Indy in, I became incredibly excited. My heart was beating really fast and I was practically bouncing up and down. I was either having a heart attack or experiencing the high that my cat addiction gives me.

Mr. King Kong was brought into the room and he immediately became a friendly big boy. My friends Doria and Anna had come in to see him as well, and he was enjoying circling the room and rubbing himself up against us and purring. His favorite thing to do, was to come up to my face and rub his face on mine.

I think he knew I was his new mama.

The SPCA volunteer gave me the rundown, and poor King Kong seemed to have had a bit of a rough couple of months! He was surrendered to the shelter because his previous owner had passed away, had had worms, a form of alopecia that was most likely stress induced from him licking himself obsessively, and he had become prone to kidney stones. This 8 year old nugget needed a good home, and after weighing the pros and cons of a third cat and his dietary restrictions, (wet food only) I gave the volunteer my ID to go get the paperwork ready for the adoption.

I’ll have you know that Doria and Anna were absolutely ZERO help with convincing me NOT to get him. So, if you think I should have been restrained, you can take it up with them.

Now King was very happy to be spending time with his new mommy, but he was going to miss feeding time because of it! He started yowling at the door that led back to the cat cage area where the feeding was commencing. I decided to see if picking him up and holding him next to the window would help, (my he’s a hefty one) and it did. He stayed there in my arms for a good 20 minutes, (pictured above) and a new lasting relationship was born.

He is currently living out his days in my apartment with his two brothers, one who still is very jealous and upset, and the other who doesn’t really care at all and would like to play but then gets afraid and can’t decide what to do…

I STRATEGICALLY didn't make my bed so all the kitties could have little mounds to hide in and feel safe.

There have been a lot of animal noises late at night…

My new Bubs loves his snuggle time. He plops right down next to me and purrs intensely, all while rubbing his face on mine and outstretching his paws to pull me in for cuddles. He also loves to "clean" me if my hand is near him when he's giving himself a bath. But he does so like a germaphobe. He'll keep licking me even after is socially acceptable and begins to leave my skin red and raw. I guess he takes after his grandmother!

Sometimes, he sits next to me and looks exactly like a little human! He also falls asleep like a human who snores. While I type this, he is sitting next to me and dozing off. He starts to snore a little and it wakes him back up. What a classic middle aged man!

King Kong is also a sneaky feller. He quickly figured out where the treats were kept and pulled them out from behind the food containers. He would then drag them to me because he wanted a treat! It took several times of me finding them in my room, partially chewed through, before I hid them in a better location.

Poor Mayday has now become the middle child and has taken on all that comes with the middle child syndrome. He's a bit grumpy and irritable, and can't understand why this new cat gets the delicious wet food and why Mom only lets him eat the dry kibble.

And in case you think you have me figured out... I am not a Catholic because I misread the sign and thought it said “Cataholics”….
